RMIT University 2020-03-25 This digital, visual and sensory ethnography project was developed as part of a research partnership with Unilever (UK). It builds on Sarah Pink’s extensive research into digital media in everyday life, sustainable consumption, and laundry and domestic technologies carried out over a series of research council and industry partner funded projects since 1999. Ethnography as a practice is rooted in place, in immersing oneself in the unique and particular contexts of individuals to better understand their perceptions and world views. Ethnographic research can produce rich, descriptive qualitative data that paints a holistic picture of a person – where they live, how they interact with their spaces and with others, and what matters most to them. Digital ethnography allows for a lot more opportunities to look at different cultures and societies. Traditional ethnography may use videos or images, but digital ethnography goes more in-depth.
